The Brewster Public Library was founded by Edith Diehl in 1896. The current Federal style library building was constructed in 1931 on Main Street. The library offers an array of services including Internet access, book clubs, children's programs and more.

Local cultural and history institution. Founded in 1963, the Southeast Museum is an active and vibrant institution offering exhibition programs, tours, family activities, lectures, seminars, conferences, and musical performances.

Restored c. 1850 Greek Revivial Home of Walter Brewster open by appointment and during December for candlelight tours. The Landmarks Preservation Society also owns and manages the Old Southeast Church and Doansburg One Room Schoolhouse on Route 22, just south of Doansburg Road. Both the Walter Brewster House and the Old Southeast Church are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Peach Lake Natural Area in Southeast contains about 138 acres surrounding Peach Lake Brook to the north of Peach Lake. The area consist of three preserves: Birdwood, the Paul Fitchen Preserve and the Cedar Swamp. Directions: Route 6 & 22 east to Starr Ridge Road. Right onto Starr Ridge. 1/2 mile, left onto Cobb Road. Go .2 miles. Paul Fitchen Preserve sign is on the right. There is a small parking area off Cobb Road. Birdwood is another .2 miles down Cobb Road on the right. The Cedar Swamp is acessed via a bridge in Birdwood.

Additional preserves in Southeast managed and owned by the Putnam County Land Trust -  Save Open Spaces, Inc. include the Glenda Farrell-Henry Ross Woodland Preserve off Milltown Road, and the Field Farmstead, 21 acres off of Fields Lane.

All the preserves are open to the public for hiking and bird watching. Prohibited: Motor vehicles, mountain bikes, hunting, trapping, discharging of firearms or other weapons, swimming, cutting or removing trees, littering, camping, kindling fires, damaging or removing fences, stone walls, gates, signs, water control structures or other property.
