The main facility and garage for the town Highway Department is located on Eastbranch Avenue just south of the intersection of Route 6 & 22. A new shed providing covering for sand, salt and equipment was completed in September 1999.
The Town of Southeast Highway Department has sixteen full-time employees that provide a full range of services on the town's approximately 80-mile road system, comprised of 165 separate roads, 147 of which are paved. Only 18 roads totaling 10.85 miles are unpaved.
The highway department provides the following services:
- Blacktop swales
- Clean drainage ditches
- Installation and maintenance of catch basins
- Installation and maintenance of drainage culverts
- Installation and maintenance of traffic signs
- Installation of curbing
- Resurfacing and repair of roads, including repairing potholes and shoulder grading
- Roadside litter removal
- Snow removal
- Street sweeping
