The Town Clerk's Office issues marriage, birth, death, dog and conservation licenses. The Office also issues alarm permits, handicap parking, and hunting permits.
The Town Clerk records all official town documents, keeps an accurate account of all meetings and coordinates elections. The office provides an interface with the public, answering questions about the Town Government - and can usually direct the individual to the correct Town department or agency for more information.
Alarm Permits
Applications are available on-line, or at our office, for anyone who has a home or business alarm system. A local law passed in 1992 requires all alarms to be licensed.
Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates Copies
If an original birth or death certificate was issued by the Town of Southeast, then it will be an obtainable within at the Town Clerk's office. The birth or death must have taken place in the Town of Southeast in order for the Town to be the legal custodian of the document. The office also has copies of marriage certificates, if the original application was filled out in the Town of Southeast. It does not matter where you were married, only where the application was filed.
Burning Permits
Residents of the Town of Southeast (excluding the Village of Brewster) may obtain burning permits from the Town Clerk's office. There is no charge and they are valid for one month from the date of issue.
Dog Licenses
All dogs (even those who remain indoors) must be registered. This is a New York State requirement. To register your dog, you must have a current rabies certificate. If the dog was spayed or neutered, please bring in proof. The cost is $7.50 for a spayed or neutered dog and $15.50 for all others. Albany will mail you a renewal form each year.
Elections
All voting is from 6am until 9:00pm.
